Meet Northern California State Governor Mica J.

Mica J

Name: Mica J.

High School: Piedmont High School

Grade: 12

Current JSA Position: JSA Northern California Governor

Other JSA Positions You've Held: East Bay Region Mayor, Political Event Manager, Convention Agent, Chapter President

What motivated you to run for the position of governor, and what goals do you hope to achieve during your term?

I decided to run for the role of governor because JSA changed my world, and I wanted to continue being a large part of it and have it influence others in the same way it impacted me. Having an entirely student-led government and politics-focused non-partisan organization is incredible and rare. It has provided me with many opportunities and experiences I wouldn't have otherwise. I am so grateful for everything I have been a part of and accomplished over the past three years, and I look forward to this year. I want to achieve positive change within and outside of our state, implement successful and sustainable systems for our cabinet, and rebuild the state from the impact of the pandemic.

As a member of the Council of Governors (CoG), how do you envision contributing to the growth and development of JSA on a national level?

My goal for national-level JSA is to connect the states to support growth, community, and each other. JSA is an incredible organization, and supporting inter-state collaboration could lead to positive change, stronger individual states, and a strengthened community.

What do you wish every student knew about JSA that would encourage them to get involved?

JSA provides incredible opportunities such as activism, leadership, people, and experiences that are difficult to find in other organizations. On top of that, JSA is entirely student-led and an open and non-partisan space for all students to speak their minds. It is a great way to get involved in local and national politics, issues, and events. One of my best decisions was to be a part of JSA, and all other students should be provided with the same opportunities.

What extracurriculars or hobbies are you involved in outside of JSA?

Along with JSA, I play cello in my school orchestra, participate in Girl Scouts, compete on my high school's sailing and track and field teams, and partake in JYCA (Jewish Youth for Community Action), an activism-focused Jewish youth group in my community.
