Spring State

Besides statewide conventions, a number of Chapter Conventions (ChapCons or ChapterCons) are held throughout the school year. Each chapter has the opportunity to host its own ChapterCon, organizing every last detail from the debates to logistics. They are a great opportunity to meet new people, establish strong relationships between chapters, and engage the JSA community between conventions.

Registration for JSA School-Year Experiences takes place through our online portal, JSAConnect. If you are affiliated with a JSA Chapter, first check with your Chapter President on how your school plans to register and pay for Spring State. If your state is having a virtual event, and your chapter does not plan to register together, you may register as an individual. If your school does not have a JSA Chapter, you may also register for a virtual event as an individual.

If you’re a JSA member, you’ll attend the Spring State where your chapter belongs. If you are not sure which experience to attend, you can reach out to our program staff to inquire at programs@jsa.org.

To attend a hybrid or in-person experience, you must be a member of JSA. You do not have to be a member to attend one of the virtual events, but you should sign up for the event in your high school’s state.

Yes! An outreach discount is available for any JSA student who receives local, state, or federal aid. A discount is automatically applied at the time of registration if the student identifies themselves as receiving such aid.

There are also a limited number of scholarships available based on other circumstances of financial need. During the registration process, delegates can choose to describe their situation in a short answer. Scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case basis.

• Yes. Regardless of state or local requirements, all participants at in-person JSA events must wear a mask that completely covers their nose and mouth. There will be no exceptions. A limited number of masks will be available for purchase.
• Students or adult chaperones who do not keep their masks on will be asked to leave, and there will be no refunds.
• Cloth masks and single-use disposable masks are acceptable. Bandanas, gators, and ski masks are not appropriate. JSA staff will determine whether a face-covering is acceptable.

Yes. JSA Teacher Advisors from your child’s school are in attendance at JSA chapter meetings, events, and experiences.
