Governor of Southern California

Taylor B-R is a member of the Junior State of America’s (JSA) Council of Governors. She represents the JSA Southern California region and is a senior at Palisades Charter High School. As the JSA Southern California Governor, Taylor is responsible for ensuring the vitality of her state through the consistent support of chapters, members, and all delegates. She prizes the efficiency, accountability, and personal connections that allow SoCal to flourish as one of the largest states in the nation.

Taylor has been an active JSA member of her high school chapter since Fall 2021. She deeply loved the complex conversations and friendships formed within the State. She was transfixed by the energy that exploded out of every convention attendee, and decided to make JSA her home in

freshman year. During her time at JSA, Taylor has held several roles, serving as a State Deputy Director of Debate, the State Director of Moderators, and most recently the State Director of Debate and the Palisades Chapter President . She has been recognized with the Matsukawa Leadership Excellence Award, the highest honor for any cabinet member in the State, and 17 Best Speaker Awards. She led her department in creating the highest rated debate dockets in several years.

Outside of JSA, Taylor is actively involved in the ACLU’s Youth Liberty Squad, her school’s student government as the Senior Class President, the California State Assembly as an intern, California Youth and Government, Girl Scouts, and the Institute for Youth and Policy. She is passionate about making a difference in policy relating to the opioid crisis, fighting antisemitism, and providing civic engagement opportunities to youth. AShe also finds incredible importance in providing civic engagement opportunities to young people, and recently earned her Girl Scout Gold Award for her work in the local community regarding civics. Taylor looks forward to attending university and earning a degree in Public Policy or International Relations, with minors in Social Justice and Judaic Studies.
