NOTE ABOUT DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS:
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is not allowed to make contributions if the donor receives a personal benefit (e.g., goods or services) from the gift. Thus, a gift for the purchase of a table at a gala is not allowed under the rules of a DAF. It is the donor’s responsibility to make sure gifts made through DAFs do not return a personal benefit. However, a DAF may sponsor an event as long as no personal benefit is derived from the gift. For example, a donor can make a gift in support of an event as long as they do not receive tickets/dinner. A donor may also make a gift in support of an event and then purchase tickets to the event separately.
