Thanks to our sponsor, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), JSA student delegates in Southern California, Northern California, and the Mid-Atlantic States hosted FIREside chats. JSAers had open discussions on freedom of speech issues impacting our democracy. Examples of the FIREside chat topics include:
- Limiting free speech on the internet
- Removing historic statutes
- Private companies' right to restrict free speech on their platforms
At Mid-Atlantic Spring State, students heard from FIRE's Program Associate Alden Di Dio. Alden shared more about FIRE's mission and its work to protect freedom of speech, followed by a Q&A. We are grateful to Alden for spending the weekend with our Mid-Atlantic students at their last convention of the school year.
