Christopher L.

National Director of Debate

Christopher L. is a Plano West High School senior and is ecstatic to serve as JSA's 2022-2023 National Director of Debate! Christopher's JSA journey started in 9th grade, after being followed by their school's JSA chapter on Instagram — and after attending 2019 Fall State, he fell in love with the organization. Christopher soon joined the Texas JSA cabinet in January 2020 as a debate agent, working to navigate the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic & helping to ensure that Spring State could still occur virtually.

In the summer of the same year, they joined the JSA Racial Justice Taskforce, interviewing author Alex Vitale during the 2020 Racial Justice Week. Becoming Director of Debate in 2021, Christopher worked to bring the state back to its first in-person conventions since 2019, adapting to conditions that forced Texas' Winter Congress online and introducing new styles of debate to the state while working to help ensure a smooth transition.

As National Director of Debate, Christopher hopes to create a sense of interconnectivity between states this year, establishing new Governor's Gavel resolutions, various debate initiatives, and other national events that help improve the convention experience.

Outside of JSA, he's an active participant in speech & debate, serving as one of the team co-captains. He also speaks French and can often be found dancing to K-Pop in their bedroom, taking amateur photography, or volunteering.
