A Community of Scholars
Palm trees, red-tiled roofs and 70-degree sunny days welcome students to the JSA Summer School at Stanford University. In the heart of Silicon Valley, the world-famous campus forms a backdrop to three intense weeks of political study and debate.
The curriculum includes both the core AP U.S. Government & Politics program and several advanced concentrations, including Speech & Political Communication, AP Macroeconomics, International Relations and Constitutional Law. Keep in mind that advanced programs are recommended only to those students who have successfully completed an AP course in U.S. History or U.S. Government.
In nightly Congressional Workshop debates, Summer School students argue their political opinions with their peers. Some issues you might discuss range from global trade policy and homeland security to gun control.
An in-depth Speakers Program brings together a stellar group of scholars and politicians to explore hot topics in U.S. government, international politics, business and the media. Past guests have included Economist Milton Friedman, Chinese Dissident Harry Wu, former Attorney General Ed Meese, and Dr. Clay Carson, Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Papers Project.
On a cultural trip to San Francisco, you and your classmates have the chance to explore the city’s many attractions. Ride a cable car “halfway to the stars”, visit Golden Gate Park, shop in Union Square, explore the neighborhoods of Chinatown and Fisherman’s Wharf, or take a tour of Alcatraz.
