We are pleased to announce that the Junior State of America and Junior Statesmen Foundation has welcomed Darci Smith to serve as our Interim CEO. For over 20 years, Darci has provided noteworthy executive leadership and facilitation for nonprofits in the youth and social impact spaces. She will be based out of the Burlingame Office with travel to Washington D.C. and other JSA regions as needed, and began her service with JSA at the beginning of this month.
Darci has previously served as interim executive director at the California Head Start Association, Big Brothers Big Sister of the North Bay, Partnership for Children & Youth, and Congregation Beth Sholom. As long-term executive director of the California School-Age Consortium, she inspired its growth from a small, $20K San Francisco-based organization to a statewide $2M professional association representing over 130,000 afterschool professionals and allied associations. She says of her time with the organization so far, “It’s been a grand start with JSA, bringing myself up to speed with its unique and impactful programs.” She will remain with JSA through the first part of this year until the Junior State secures our permanent CEO.
Darci comes to us through the search firm Brakeley Briscoe, who JSA has retained to help conduct our search for our permanent CEO. JSA has also formed an CEO search committee comprised of former and current board members, a full list of which you can find here. Brakeley Briscoe has been working deeply with our board and staff to find the best fit to help lead Junior State’s focused civic education programs and our lasting and future impact.
Darci brings with her a wealth of experience as an interim executive director at a number of non-profits, a Technology of Participation Facilitator and Trainer accreditation, and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. We are very excited to welcome her into the JSA family, and look forward to the work she will accomplish with our students and staff to support our civic engagement programs.
