Tom is the President of Bridgevine Strategy Partners, LLC where he advises senior management teams in the development and execution of data and analytics strategies. He also is an advisor to start-up and early stage ventures in the insurance and financial services industries.
Prior to founding Bridgevine, Tom was the chief data officer for AIG’s Life and Retirement businesses where he led the evolution of their data management and business analytics capabilities, and the implementation of data governance processes. He also led various initiatives that demonstrated the value of using “big data” in managing consumer insurance markets.
Prior to joining AIG in 2012 Tom led Allstate Insurance Company’s corporate research center in Menlo Park, CA. There he led teams of data scientists and developers to mine predictive insights from Allstate’s vast data archives that could be applied to current business problems. He also directed the company’s forward-thinking basic research efforts that led Allstate to develop (among other things) its initial e-commerce strategies and telematics-based insurance products. Before beginning his twenty-five years at Allstate, Tom was the co-manager of a hedge fund and participated in buy-out transactions of public and private companies.
Tom earned his MBA at Harvard University in 1984 and graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Accounting in 1982. He is a non-practicing Chartered Financial Analyst.
Tom’s relationship with JSA began in 2011 as a member of a volunteer consulting team from Harvard Business School Community Partners, an HBS alumni group that donates time to Bay Area non-profits. The team was engaged to help JSA develop a new strategic plan that would guide the organization through the next five years. At the end of this engagement, Tom was asked to join the board of directors.
Tom lives in The Woodlands, Texas with his partner Becky. His daughter Elizabeth is a communications specialist at Change For Kids, a New York City based non-profit.
